About Us

Who we are

Las Vegas Black Gospel Theatre, Inc. is a non–denominational, multicultural, private, non–profit theatre company. The Theatre was founded by Las Vegas native, Mary–Etta Sayles Clinton, who also serves as the playwright. In September of 1990 we became incorporated with the Secretary of State of Nevada, and received our 501 C(3) status with the Internal Revenue Service in March of 1993. Las Vegas Black Gospel Theatre is Nevada’s only gospel theatre, and the oldest community theatre originating in the predominately black (West) Las Vegas community, and currently serves the entire Las Vegas valley. The Theatre strives to meet the artistic and cultural needs of the community by creating plays and other performances that provide entertainment, education, and awareness which promote moral values, cultural and ethnic diversity, and access to legitimate theatre for under–served audiences. The Theatre has produced twenty performances since 1991, including two dinner shows at a major hotel.

Our Mission

Las Vegas Black Gospel Theatre presents original black gospel plays that develop, enhance and cement Biblically–based morality and education. Additionally, the Theatre creates environments for careers in every facet of theatre development for under–served youth and adults seeking life–empowering ventures via theatrical and entertainment arts.

Our Vision

Las Vegas Black Gospel Theatre platforms spiritual and traditional Gospel music; introduces careers in the entertainment arts; the by–product is polished, entertaining and thought–provoking within the format of gospel plays with music. Each gospel play advances skill development in writing, directing, acting, signing for the deaf, singing, dancing, use of musical instruments, stage managing, stage building, prop management, hospitality, house managing, and developing computer/telephone/writing skills as well as computer programming development.
